So this year i was determined! I took the tube to Embankment and walked from there. For the first time ever i discovered the Victoria Embankment Gardens. When i arrived at Temple Church underground station i took the wrong turn, or rather i shouldn't have taken any turn yet and i got lost for the first time (not the last time though) I was wandering around streets, ending up at Strand and St. Clement Danes. somewhat baffled. I am so totally useless with maps, really. (yes, i get lost with a map, for me that is nothing unusual)
But my inaptitude provided me with some nice photo motifs
After some straying around i finally found the church. It is a somewhat secluded area which gives it a tranquil and quiet atmosphere. Which is always an amazing thing in London, to have these quiet spots in close proximity to such busy and noisy streets like Strand or Victoria Embankment. I think i was more impressed by the whole area than by the church itself even though i liked it. Especially the effigies and the glass windows.
After visiting the church i enjoyed the adjacent garden. The Inner Temple Garden was still closed but the Middle Temple Garden was open and i enjoyed some time there relaxing.
Then i went on search for that alleged Roman Bath which obviously isn't a Roman Bath at all. This place i found pretty easily, for once. Not much to see but i can claim i have been to some place in London where not all and sundry tends to go.
After that i crossed Waterloo Bridge and ended up on the Southbank, obviously. What was i thinking, really? Why did i go there? From the nice quietness of Temple Gardens i stepped right into the noisy "Entertainment for the Masses" area and i was suddenly in the masses. I allowed myself a single cone and sat there for a while, resting my feet on which there were already blisters showing. (First day!!!)
In an idiotic move i walked from Waterloo Bridge to Westminster Bridge and mingled with half the world's population. But it couldn't be helped, once in the crowd you just have to move along with it. It took ages to get to Westminster Bridge. And i was so glad to be out of those noisy crowds of people with quarelling adults, crying kids, without having collided with ice-cream, or cola, or fries, or whatever else people were carrying around. Uffff.
From Westminster Bridge i took a bus to Baker Street. Yet another of my glorious ideas, really. But then again, i had time, i was not in a hurry, i had no one to answer to about anything. Anyone who knows London also knows it is almost a faster option to walk from Westminster Bridge to Baker Street than taking a bus but i throned on my seat upstairs and was as content as can be. I hopped off the bus at Regent's Park where i got lost for the second time which then led me to find a Secret Garden. More about that later.
