He married Elizabeth Emma Jones in 1837 (more about her later as well). Sadly she died at only 29 bearing their first child. This monument was erected for her by her grieving husband.
The FB page of The Friends of Kensal Green Cemetery shows an image from when the monument was new and intact:
As you can see the delicate ironwork is lost now. It spelt out Emma’s name. And the figure on top, some source says it depicts Faith and another that it shows Hope, has lost her cross.
So, now I am really running behind in time and must hurry! This is a little teaser for my next blog post which will go into more detail about Emma, Alexis and this wonderful monument.
